Leap Year

One of my goals for 2023 was to write more on this blog. And a couple of things happened this week that made it difficult to accomplish that goal.

Number one, I got COVID-19. I had to cancel a work trip and was sidelined for the whole week recovering.

Number two, our family got a new puppy (which is fantastic). And even though this is a blessing, it also means that free time was hard to find. Everyone is running a little ragged.

But I’m not complaining. I’m determined to write more on here because, as I said in my end-of-year album roundup post, the more I can own the content I create, the better. Social media has shown us that it is not trustworthy. We should be able to control as much of the content we create and consume as possible.

On to the list. Here are five things I’ve been paying attention to this past week.

1️⃣ Quantum Leap

Initially skeptical about the Quantum Leap reboot, I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how they honor the previous series and add elements that I wish were in the original. Glad it was renewed for a second season already. I hope they eventually get Scott Bakula in this series and close that story loop (er…leap).

2️⃣ The Peripheral

I’m going to look past the sus southern accents and enjoy the ride for this series. Very excited to see how this wraps up. Combines elements of time travel and alternate timelines with a bit of southern gamer charm.

3️⃣Calming Puppy Music

My 2023 Spotify Wrapped is already skewed toward this playlist. Ah well…

4️⃣ Shameless Acquisition Target

Laura Mayer’s podcast Shameless Acquisition Target wrapped up toward the last days of 2022, and it was nothing short of inspiring. If you care about the future of podcasting, you’ll want to give it a listen. I want to give the podcast a proper analysis, so hopefully, I can get to that sometime soon. My big takeaway: tryhard loser.

5️⃣ Just a Bit Outside

I can’t stop thinking about the last play of the Georgia v. Ohio State game on New Year’s Eve. Wow.

That’s it y’all. Happy 2023 everyone. Let’s do this.

That was a great round-up! I’ve been meaning to check out Quantum Leap, so now it’s on my list.

I’m not as sure about The Peripheral, but I’ll probably give it a chance at some point too!

Ok, so at my breakfast meeting this morning (right after leaving the comment above) the woman I was with mentioned “The Peripheral”, so apparently I really need to give it try! 🙂

We just finished the first season and it was fantastic. Apparently it is a book trilogy so I’m going to checking out the books too.
