Sweet Read

Lately, I’ve been spending less and less time on social media. And by less time, I mean a drastic reduction in my overall investment of time I post. I’m just less and less inclined to care.

And as a replacement, I’m trying to train myself to think about what I’d want to write for my blog. Remember those? Well, I’m one of the ones trying to bring it back. Maybe blogging never left.

As I wrote before, blogging more is a goal of mine for 2023, and while I don’t think I’ll ever get to it daily, like my friend Mickey, weekly seems attainable.

Here are five things I’ve been paying attention to this week.

1️⃣ NFL Playoffs

Living in Atlanta, it is hard to get rid of the sting of 2017, but I still enjoy the NFL playoffs. I’m writing this on Monday, so there is still the Cowboys v Bucs game, but this play by the Bengals’ defense was pretty nice.

2️⃣ Central Park

There is a new season of Central Park, Apple’s musical animated series about a family of four that lives in a house castle in the middle of 843 acres of green space in the middle of Manhatten. It is one of our family’s favorites, and I’m very much enjoying the new plotlines and songs.

3️⃣ The Sweet Read

Last week, the family was introduced to a new coffee shop in our area. It’s a used book store, plus a bakery, and they sell coffee + tea drinks, all set in an old style bungalow house. It’s called The Sweet Read, and I’m pretty sure it will be my new favorite work spot.

4️⃣ Ready Player One

Last night, my 13-year-old convinced the family to watch Ready Player One again. And it still holds up after multiple watches. Hard to imagine that this movie was made 5 years ago. I wonder how prophetic it will end up being.

5️⃣ The Terminal List

I finally finished The Terminal List. And TBH, I’m not compelled to keep following the narrative of James Reece. No spoilers here if you haven’t seen it. But I thought that there would be more… nuance? It’s revenge genre, plain and simple. And if you are into that, then you won’t be disappointed.

It’s MLK day. It might be a good time to reflect on some of the things Dr. King said beyond his “I Have a Dream” speech. Here is a good place to start.
